It’s Monday, and Snickers looks like he could use one more cup of coffee to get him moving. But alas, it was just the intense Cali sun rendering him (and all of us) blind. We really do need to invest in some dog sunglasses if we continue living here.

Anyhoo, the original owner of this home in Alameda, California, was Omar J. Humphrey, manager of the Alaska Canning Company. It was built in 1890 by prolific architect J.A. Leonard.
Born in 1857 in Maine, Humphrey became not only a businessman, but sea captain who authored a book: “Wreck of the Rainier: A Sailor’s Narrative.” We found an original 1887 copy, signed by Humphrey online. It’s going for $175.
