The Emigrant Jane building and Confidence building are two brightly-colored standouts in downtown Placerville, California.
According to the plaque on the yellow side: “Emigrant Jane drove a band of horses across the plains and from the proceeds of their sale, she erected this building in 1861.”

Her full name was Jane Johnson, also known as Mary Jane Shroyers.
The red building sign reads: “This building was erected in the fall of 1860 for Confidence Engine Company No. 1, organized in June, 1857. City Government located here since 1902.”
