Julius Gutte House

Prolific builder J.A. Leonard erected this house in Alameda, California in 1890 for Julius Gutte of Gutte & Frank in San Francisco.

At his firm, Gutte was largely interested in Mexican and Central American coffee plantations and shipping, according to a 1890 obituary. The native of Germany died at age 74 in this home after a months-long illness. His funeral service also took place at his home.

The house, which has 8 bedrooms and three bathrooms, cost $5,500 to build. Zillow estimates its current worth at more than $2.7 million.
