Sibley-Fitz House

It’s Friyay — the perfect day for a cheery, yellow house.

Local contractor James Sibley built this house in 1870 in Woodland, California. Sibley, who operated the Yolo Steam Planing Mill, sold the house to Reuben and Sarah Fitz just three years later.

Fitz came to Yolo County from New York via Panama in 1860, buying a farm near Woodland where he raised cattle and alfalfa. He married Sarah Hilton in 1865 and continued their farming operation while living here.
