Capt. John Wanton House

Happy Won’t Look Wednesday from the Captain John Wanton House in Newport, Rhode Island.

Built in 1771, it was the residence of Wanton, a commander at Fort Washington, which was located on Goat Island and guarded the entrance to Newport harbor.

We’re just smitten with this bold front door against this brooding charcoal color. A nice combo for spooky season.

The house was moved to this Washington Street location in 1930, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
