Elbert Churchill House

Built in 1893 for Elbert and Gertrude Churchill, this Arlington, Mass., home listed Gertrude as the owner of record.

Elbert worked in Boston in the coal business, and owned a few other lots nearby between 1893-1895.

The Churchills sold the house to Alice L. Brooks, who lived there with her husband, William, who was a Boston businessman.

“The Churchill House is an important component in the streetscape of this residential neighborhood, built late in the 19th century and early in the 20th century as large holdings were
platted for development surrounding the town center,” says the write-up on the Massachusetts Cultural Resource Information System. “It employs the massing and retains the rich ornament
characteristic of the ample single-family and duplex houses in picturesque and revival styles which survive in this area.”

It has five bedrooms, four bathrooms and 2,693 square feet.
