We ran into the owner of this house during our walk in Alameda, California, and he was so kind! He told us all about prolific architect and builder Joseph A. Leonard, who built this house (and so many others in the city) in 1891.

He explained that Leonard’s trademark was to include a sunburst on each of his designs, and we absolutely love that the ones on this house are painted metallic gold.
Leonard also happened to be the original owner of this particular home, which cost about $4,000 to build. We realize Zillow estimates aren’t concrete, but its estimate there is nearly $1.4 million dollars.
