The Truckee Hotel

Built as the American Hotel in 1873, this building in Truckee, California, has gone through several name changes.

In 1909, the hotel — nestled in the Sierra Nevada mountains and about 20 minutes from Lake Tahoe — burned to the ground and was rebuilt as the Alpine Riverside Hotel for the 1960 Winter Olympics. It was renovated and reopened as the Truckee Hotel in 1977.
