In 1856, Folsom, California, dentist Dr. Lerman Bates built this house shortly after the town was founded.

Likely Folsom’s oldest extant home, the siding and milled lumber for the house was shipped from the state of Maine (!).

In 1925, Bill Rumsey, owner of Rumsey Hardware, bought the house during the Bates’ estate sale. Bill’s daughter-in-law sold the house following the death of her husband, Clem Rumsey.
