This Vacaville, California, house was built for William Linn Jepson’s mother around 1914. Jepson, who studied botany at the University of California, became the first Ph.D. from Vacaville (1899).

A charter member of the Sierra Club (1892), Jepson helped found the Save-the-Redwoods League and helped organize the Department of Forestry at UC Berkeley where he served on the faculty for 40 years.
