George Sharpe, who built many houses on Buck Avenue in Vacaville, California, built this one for himself in 1896. In 1907, Sharpe sold it to W.E. Lawrence of Schroeder and Lawrence Hardware.

Seven years later, it was sold to George Akerly, owner of Akerly’s General Merchandise Store, which was known for its popular slogan, “If you can’t find it at Akerly’s, there’s no use looking anywhere else.”
