Imperial Hotel/Hotel Vintage

Last time we visited Portland, Oregon, we stayed at the pup-friendly Kimpton Hotel Vintage and could not have been more pleased.

Upon check-in, Snickers was loved on by hotel employees, who offered up a giant bag of hotel-branded dog treats for his stay. He was welcome at happy hour, and also hung with me at the hotel’s lobby bar one evening.

Originally open as The Imperial Hotel, construction on the Richardson Romanesque building began in 1892, with the grand opening in 1894. There was a major expansion in 1909 and New Imperial Hotel opened next door. However, the newer building was eventually sold, and the two became separate hotels.

This building was renamed the Plaza, while the newer building retained The Imperial name. In the 1980s, it did a stint as an office building before being purchased and remodeled into a boutique hotel in 1989, as the Hotel Vintage Plaza. After a $16 million renovation in 2015, it reopened with the name it still retains today: Kimpton Hotel Vintage Portland.

With a game room, cozy lobby bar/seating, graffiti-inspired art throughout and one of the friendliest staffs we’ve experienced at a hotel, we will definitely stay here again.

In 1985, the building became a Portland Historic Landmark and was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
