First Religious Society of Carlisle

Built in 1811 in Carlisle, Mass., the First Religious Society of Carlisle Church replaced the original 1758-building, which burned to the ground after being struck by lightening.

With hopes for a more modern building, the old, boxy meeting house was replaced by this one. The first services were held March 2, 1812.

While it lost most of its civic purpose in the late 1820s when the municipal functions of town government were separated from those of the original Carlisle religious society, it remains the home of that church and congregation, which was later incorporated under the name of the First Religious Society of Carlisle.

It is now a Unitarian Universalist Church.
