Fun fact: The Yaquina Head Lighthouse was made in Paris in 1868 and shipped to the state of Oregon. The tallest lighthouse in the state, it towers at 93 feet high and presides over nesting seabirds, surfers and a beach with tidepools.

But wait, there’s more! It’s a little famous, too. The lighthouse was used for the setting of the Moesko Island Lighthouse in the (terrifying) 2002 movie, “The Ring.” Prior to that, it was in two other films: “Hysterical” (1983) and “The Nancy Drew Mysteries” television series. (1977).
One super cool part was that it’s surrounded by gorgeous hiking paths. We climbed to the top of Salal Hill Trail, which offers a stunning view of the lighthouse, surrounding coastal area and vegetation.

Yaquina Head Lighthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The lighthouse is also open for tours, but pups aren’t allowed near the actual lighthouse and it was too warm to leave my buddy in the car for a few, so we skipped that part.
